The Kat Eyz and Prowler bridges are available in old
submerged hard maple, hard maple, or regular select hard maple. All PayPal orders will be assumed an old wood bridge order
unless regular hard maple is requested in the "comments"
section of the order form.
The different top widths assist in achieving different tonal
qualities from your banjo. Generally, a narrow top width
will help give a bright tone with quicker decay, a regular
top width will give a good balanced tone, while a wide top
width will give a deeper tone with more sustain. Top width
thickness goes hand in hand with final gram weight of your
bridge. In most cases, the heavier the bridge weight, the
wider the top.
Top woods also affect the tone of your banjo. Ebony and
African Blackwood (purple ebony) give a nice bright tonal
accent, and the Rosewood and Purple Heart tops give
a slightly deeper (or warmer) tone. The tone of a Snakewood
top will be in between the ebony and rosewood tops. It is my
opinion, however, that the biggest difference in the top
wood is strictly cosmetic appeal.
